Updated Armoire

Before I even get started, these pictures do not do this piece of furniture justice. I have seriously got to get better at taking photos of my projects, but in the meantime.......
This armoire holds our computer in the study. When we got it (for free!!!) it was pine, then I painted it red, and then painted it black when we moved into the house we're in now. I made the mistake of trying to cover satin red paint with flat black, and got these lovely scratches all over that now have red showing through. Anyhoo, I was getting tired of looking at black, and Nester inspired me to go lighter. So, I picked up some Behr Paint and Primer Combo paint at Home Depot this past weekend when we were in El Paso, and let me just say that I love that paint. It is amazing. Period. It covered this in one coat and looks really good. I also spray painted the hinges black to get rid of the brassy gold.

Here she is after. It looks really good against our chocolate walls. Now I just need to set some pretties on the top and it will be all done!

"new" hinges - I am in love with spray paint

I think it looks really nice from the open living area of our house looking into that room.

Garage Sale Fun

I have found some fun stuff lately at garage sales! My Nana does estate sales and luckily I often get to look at all of the goodies before the sale, so I find some great stuff at those. Last week Lakeview Christian Home had a huge rummage sale, and I found some treasures there. Here are some pics of my finds!

Love this cute bookcase that was at an estate sale Nana did. I haven't decorated it up yet, but it looks pretty good as is in Grayer's nursery for now.

holds those books just perfectly!

cute little oval plate 50cents

pretty little vase 50cents

stack of plates - not sure on price; by this time I was just throwing stuff on the counter! little planter was 50cents

another little planter for 50cents

Nana did a sale recently with lots of teapots. I bought 6 of them, sprayed them all neutral and have them displayed on my dining hutch. I'm not sure if they'll stay there or end up on a shelf or cabinet, but they have a home for now.

6 little teapots

these were a steal - $5 for both of these old samsonite suitcases at the Lakeview sale; love how they look sitting out

I forgot to post a pic of the coffee table I snagged for $5, but when I redo it, I'll post then. It's super cute.

Time to start a new one

Blog, that is! Now I can post all of these random pictures of my crafts. Usually I feel guilty for posting about crafts instead of my kiddos on their blog, but now I can post guilt-free!! I am not claiming to be nearly as talented or crafty as many people out there in blogworld, but it is fun to see what other people are doing. So, here goes my first post.

My sister-in-law picked this up at a yard sale for 10 bucks and asked me to re-do it. She wanted it painted shabby chic for her girls' bathroom. I am not sure if I really know what shabby chic is supposed to look like, but it was fun re-doing it anyhoo! This is the before. It was just a plain old wood.
And the after. I seriously have to get better at taking pictures. I sanded it, painted it antique white, then painted fun stuff on it.

A little flower on the mirror with some gold accents

Stripes and dots; my OCD takes over sometimes and I want to make every line perfectly straight, but usually uneven ends up looking better

Her girls are going to use the drawers to keep jewelry and stuff in. I painted each of their initials on the tops. This side is Emmy's.

This side is for Abby. I added the polka dots on the inside and outside. Overall, I think it's really cute!

One of my fellow blogging friends (hey Sari!) made this fun burlap table cloth, so I had to try it out. It WAS super easy. I just stenciled on the letter with paint. No sewing involved (since I don't know how!). Just cut it out.

I can't remember where I got the idea, magazine or blog, but I had seen somewhere to take all of your old vases that you get flowers and stuff in, and just paint them. So, I had a ton in my cabinets, spray painted them, and made a centerpiece for my table out of them. I think it turned out better than I was hoping for!
